Of all the different kinds of sports gears and sportswear, the sports bras are one that is, for obvious reasons, the most important for girls. To be successful in your sport or workout, your sports bra has to achieve two important jobs. First, it has to be snug and comfortable, so you don't have movement to throw off your run or ruin your play in the sport of your choice.

Every girl knows that wearing the right sports bra is vital to her comfort when exercising. Excessive movements of your chest when exercising is not only uncomfortable and distracting but also painful. Without the proper fitting sports bra, a girls' breast bounces around during active movements, which causes stretching and eventual sagging.

Exercise might be good for your health - but keeping fit without a good girls sports bra is bad for your chest. Research shows that the up and down movement of breasts during sports stretches vital ligaments beyond repair. And without the right support both small and large-chested ladies will end up with a saggy bosom.

During high-impact exercises, such as aerobics, unsupported chests can bounce by as much as 21cm, and move from side to side. This movement makes the breasts' main support system, the Cooper's ligaments, to be under lots of stress. Once these ligaments are stretched they never recover and that causes the chest to sag.

Even lower-impact sports can lead to chest bounce. A University of Portsmouth study found that breasts move as much during slow jogging as when sprinting. Other activities that necessitate a sports bra include aerobics, body attack and trampolining.

Girls with smaller chests will also be affected by so-called "Cooper's droop." Medical research has found that whether you measure a 34A or a 36E, the supporting ligaments are under strain.

An Australian study revealed that a good sports bra would reduce vertical bounce by half that of a bare chest. But to make sure you attain the right support it's essential that you buy exactly the right bra size.

Always try on a range of bras to ensure proper support and comfort.

Bra comfort

The straps should be broad and comfortable - and shouldn't slip. Bra support should be all around the chest and at the sides. The bigger the bust, the more engineering there will be. Some larger sizes will have under-wiring and shoulder pads built into the straps for extra support and comfort.

Ensure cups are seamless and molded to prevent rubbing. Side clips are better than back clips if you're doing exercises such as sit-ups. Ideally, sports bras should be made from a material that wicks away sweat so that wearers do not feel damp or develop a rash.

There are different bras to suit various sports, including high impact for vigorous exercise and lower-impact for such sessions as yoga.

Compression Sports Bra

These are the kind of single piece bras that you pull over your head and sometimes have a cross back. They press the breasts firmly against the chest and help reduce movements. If you are a larger chest girl, you may experience discomfort as it won't fully support your breasts. They are more suited, or cup sizes less the c-cup. The sizes come in small, medium, and large.

Encapsulation Bras

These are the kinds that look more like the regular bra with or without underwire support. Each breast is held and supported in separate cups and mostly have front fasteners. They offer the most extra support for bigger-chest girl. You can find these in traditional bra sizes that run up to double ds.

As stated above, the right teen girl sports bra size combined with comfortable fabric will make a huge difference in your comfort level and stop the distraction when exercising. Now go find yourself a bra to keep the "girls" in place and keep on walking.

It's also recommended that you change your sports bra every 30 to 50 washes. Keep an eye on the material to check for wear and stretch. There is little point in a bra that sags or doesn't support you in the right places.
